If the Signal chat war plans scandal had happened in the UK, jobs would have been lost immediately and the rule book on intelligence security would be rewritten.
What US President Donald Trump’s buffoonish leadership team did was incredibly stupid, but it has done the world a favour by laying bare just how toxic and cavalier his regime is.
Not only have they been exposed as not adhering to conventional rules, but their absolute ruthless and infantile refusal to accept any responsibility has also been exposed.
We can only imagine what else they have been so casual about, which is a terrifying prospect for any long-term undercover US intelligence workers and possibly even America’s allies.
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth’s immediate response when asked about the Houthi attack plans leaks was that it simply didn’t happen.
Quite incredibly, CIA Director John Ratcliffe refused even to admit the conversation on Signal was a mistake when asked about it at an Intelligence Committee Senate hearing.
