Israel’s war cabinet is still thrashing out the possibility of a partial or full-scale invasion of Lebanon, while cross-border missile attacks show little sign of calming down.
This week eight soldiers were injured and one killed in a Hezbollah missile attack as Israeli intelligence hunts down and tries to kill the network’s senior leadership.
Sources are indicating that operations against Hezbollah are, in the coming weeks, going to intensify and targets in Lebanon are already being lined up.
A large number of these are already being compiled as they are needed to serve the escalatory process - as Hezbollah retaliates to strikes, Israel will escalate further.
As the conflict progresses, the last thing Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants is to run out of targets - as that would force the possibility of having to invade southern Lebanon.
Whatever happens, the possibility of a multi-fronted conflict for Israel hugely increases the possibility of further flashpoints throughout the Middle East.
